Who we are

magic box is run by Sidequest Research LLC, a Texas limited liability company. In these terms, that's “we” and “us”.

These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use the website or a box.

What magic box is

magic box is a private AI box for one person. Its own little computer remembers your people, plans and promises.

It's an early-access beta, invite-only, and still changing.

Who can use it

You must be 18 or older and able to agree to these terms. One person per box. Don't share your sign-in or passkey.

Your account and your box

You're responsible for what happens under your sign-in and passkey. Keep your recovery phrase safe.

If you lose every way to unlock your box and your recovery phrase, nobody can get it back, not even us. Read how locking works →

Your stuff stays yours

You own what you put in your box and what it makes for you.

You give us only the permission we need to run, store, back up and deliver the service to you, and nothing else. We don't sell your stuff and don't use it to train AI.

The AI brains

The included brain runs through Venice.

If you plug in your own key from Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI (Grok), Meta (Muse), OpenRouter or Venice, or sign in with your ChatGPT subscription, your messages go to that provider. Its own terms and privacy policy apply, and you pay it directly.

We aren't responsible for what those providers do.

Connections and actions

Connectors such as Gmail, Google Drive, WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage and Laso act only on your behalf. Anything that sends, shares, spends or deletes needs your yes, unless you choose otherwise in Rules.

You're responsible for following those services' own terms.

AI can be wrong

The box can misunderstand, forget or make things up. Check anything important. It isn't legal, medical, financial or other professional advice.

Using it fairly

Don't use magic box to break the law, harm or harass anyone, or send spam. Don't get into accounts or systems that aren't yours.

Don't attack or overload the service, or try to get around its safety limits or someone else's box.

A beta, so things change

Features may change, pause or end.

We may suspend or close a box that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you first and let you download your box.

Fees

The beta is free today. If we ever charge for anything, we'll tell you the price before you pay. You can say no.

No promises

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.

Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or lost data, profits or opportunities.

Our total liability to you is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US$100.

If something you do causes a claim

You agree to cover us for claims and costs caused by your breaking these terms or the law, or by your content.

Texas law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Texas. You and we agree to their jurisdiction.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top. For meaningful changes, we'll tell you on the site or in your box before they apply.

Using magic box after that means you accept them.
