Your box holds your life. Here's what we see, and what we don't.
Who we are
magic box is operated by Sidequest Research LLC, a Texas limited liability company. In this policy, that's “we” and “us”.
This policy covers the website and how it works with your box.
What the website collects
If you join the waitlist, we save your first name, email and optional “what should it remember” note. We use these to keep your place and handle invitations.
We also keep invite codes and the information needed for sign-in and setup: your account, box name and address, awake and locked status, and your setup help note. Your setup note stays on the website, not in the box's memory.
Our host keeps basic hosting logs for requests to the website.
Check-ins and reports
About every 10 minutes, your box sends a short status check-in. It tells us which box it is, its name and release number, whether an update is waiting, and its awake and locked status. It doesn't send your memory or chats.
You can choose to send a bug report from Settings → Tell the maker. It includes your words and box status lines, with emails, numbers and codes hidden. Only send details you want us to see.
What stays on your box
Your memory, chats and pages live on your own box. So do the messages, mail, calendar information and files it reads from accounts you've connected. These aren't sent to us as website records.
Your box is locked with your passkey. We can't open a locked box. The AI services and assistants you choose may see the information described below.
There are limits to that protection. Whoever controls the computers we rent could change what runs and wait for you to unlock your box again. Read about those limits →
The brain you choose
The messages you send and the context your box needs are processed by the AI model provider you use. The included brain runs through Venice.ai.
You can instead use your own key from Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI (Grok), Meta (Muse), OpenRouter or Venice, or your ChatGPT plan. Those companies' own privacy terms apply to what they process.
Notifications
Notifications are off until you turn them on. When they're on, your box sends them through your phone's or browser's own notification service, run by Apple, Google, Mozilla or Microsoft depending on your device. They're encrypted to your device and carry only a short title, never your messages or notes.
Other assistants
If you connect Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or Muse to your box's memory, they can read and write what you've allowed. That access is also covered by the assistant company's own terms and privacy policy. You can disconnect an assistant when you change your mind.
If you connect an assistant through www.usemagicbox.com/mcp, its requests pass through our website on their way to your box. We don't store their content; we keep only what's needed to route them (which box, a hashed sign-in token) and basic hosting logs.
Connected accounts and Google data
Google, WhatsApp, Telegram and iMessage through your own Mac are read by your box when you connect them. The information is used to provide the features you've chosen.
Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Google user data is used only to provide your box's features to you. We don't sell it, use it for ads, or use it to train models. Any transfer of that data is limited to providing those features, security needs, or what the law requires.
Humans don't read your Google data except with your permission, when needed for security, or when the law requires it.
No selling. No ads.
We don't sell personal data. We don't run ads.
Export or erase
You can export your box or erase it at any time. Keep your passkey and recovery phrase safe. If you lose every way to unlock it and your recovery phrase, nobody can recover what's inside.

Children
magic box is not for children under 13. It's not intended for anyone under 18 without a parent. Our Terms of Service require you to be 18 or older to use the service.

We may update this policy as magic box changes. We'll update the effective date above. We'll tell you on the website or in your box before meaningful changes apply.
